Cluster D - Infrastructure

Cluster D deals predominantly with technical issues concerning the construction of Repositories. This includes questions about the infrastructure of Repositories for long-term archiving. Cluster D will take into account the entire workflow of the data in order to investigate the optimal route to transfer data into the Repository and how to make it available to different user groups. Other questions include how the technical operations should be designed and how to physically keep the data. Should we provide infrastructure for all areas, or only to those where cooperation is possible or useful?

The topics are divided as follows:

  • Data Upload of different sizes and quantities (single and bulk upload)
  • Storage and backup
  • Distributed data management
  • Disaster and recovery (What to do when everything fails?)
  • Interfaces to other systems
  • Presentation of different data types (example: streaming for audio/video)
  • Concepts for technical operations
  • (Re)use of the common infrastructure

A Competence Network will be established and will play an active part during the implementation of the project. The Competence Network is composed of IT managers and available IT infrastructure of the participating institutions.
