Cluster G - Visual Data Modeling

Cluster G discusses the visualization of data sets resulting from research processes and the development of reference models for dealing with data from selected areas (for example: digital humanities) or disciplines (arts, science, etc).

Currently, the term "research infrastructures" is in common use. These infrastructures play a key role when undertaking research, because they create, establish, and continually update the object of the research. They have recently become more important particularly in the areas of humanities and cultural studies.

Cluster G works precisely with these digital infrastructures concerning their potential for visualization in different scientific disciplines. The activities of Cluster G are in close relationship to the activities of Clusters H, D and F.

Concrete Activities:

  • Definitions of requirements: interface design with special consideration of disciplinary requirements (for example: art and media, social sciences, etc.)
  • Reference model for usability testing in each level of development and implementation, reference model for Digital Humanities, Social Sciences, and other disciplines
  • Big Data and Linked Data as basic structures for the enrichment process
  • Reference model: visualization and construction of "science rooms"
  • Technological support for classification of different data sources
  • Reference model: visualization of semantic networks, personal networks, data visualizations in the dimensions of time and space
  • Analysis and development of publishing systems and systems for science communication

Based on selected data management plans, Cluster G will design workflows for visual data modeling concepts.
