Cluster L - Cross Project Issues (technical and non-technical) 

Cluster L deals with selected cross-project issues that arise during the planning, construction, and operation of a Repository. The principal subject areas of Cluster L are: usability, accessibility, and multilingualism of the systems in use and the data stored in them.

Since 2006 when the Federal Disability Equality Act (BGStG) was enacted, and since 2008 as part of the E-Government Act (EGovG), accessibility and availability for information processing systems have become essential and compulsory components of digital infrastructures.

Cluster L is responsible for handling issues concerning accessibility and availability of the systems and data in use.

Key Activities:

• Requirements analysis (target groups, use cases, etc.)
• Analysis of existing policies, standards, and legal frameworks
• Accessibility design of information and communication systems
• Ensuring the accessibility of information provided by the project itself (web, Wiki, documents, presentation slides, templates, etc.)
• Accessibility of research data and dissertations
• Analysis of the accessibility of currently used (or planned) products
• Translation of technical into non-technical, easy to read language, or sign language
• Development of recommendations and guidelines to fulfill the requirements
• Promoting workshops on topics such as "Fundamentals of eAccessibility", "Web Accessibility", or "Digital Accessibility in  Academic Libraries" to raise awareness among the project partners
• Promoting networking in these areas (UNIABILITY)

Team Leader: Andreas Jeitler, Bakk.techn., Library, University of Klagenfurt

Andreas Jeitler is responsible for advising the Library of the University of Klagenfurt about persons with disabilities, particularly the blind and partially sighted. In this context, the Library of the University of Klagenfurt offers a blind and visually impaired position, managed by Mr. Jeitler. Other tasks include advising teachers on teaching and accessibility, provisioning for continuing education (for example: as part of the internal training), and for ensuring accessibility throughout the infrastructure of the Library of University of Klagenfurt. Mr. Jeitler studies computer science, journalism and communications at the Alpen-Adria University of Klagenfurt. His primary research interest is the usability and compliance of information and communication systems in relation to universal design or Usability4All. Andreas Jeitler currently works as a consultant at Uniability, covering the subject of new information and communication systems. Uniability is the Association for the Equality of People with Disabilities and Chronic Diseases in Austrian universities and colleges. Mr. Jeitler was chairman of Uniability for several years.
